New Wine Blues

Scripture Matthew 9:17

17 Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.”

Lyrics

Verse 1
A: Got that new wine pourin’, but these old skins start to tear
A (repeat): Yeah, that new wine’s flowin’, but these old skins start to tear
B (turnaround): Lord, You said, “Get a new vessel — old ones just can’t hold what I share.”

Verse 2
A: I tried mendin’ the old life, patchin’ cracks I couldn’t see
A (repeat): Oh, I kept mendin’ the old life, patchin’ cracks I couldn’t see
B: Till You whispered, “Child, the new thing ain’t meant for who you used to be.”

Verse 3
A: So I laid down my old ways, let the Spirit make me new
A (repeat): Yes, I laid down them old ways, let the Spirit make me new
B: Now Your wine runs steady, Lord — and my heart don’t leak like it used to do.

Verse 4
A: Now I’m walkin’ in new mercy, with a soul that’s built to last
A (repeat): Yeah, I’m walkin’ in that new mercy, with a soul that’s built to last
B: ’Cause You can’t pour tomorrow’s blessing into a cup chained to the past.
