Jericho Road (Good Samaritan)

A Delta-style blues retelling of the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25–37). Set on the dusty Jericho road, this song follows the story Jesus told about mercy, compassion, and what it truly means to love your neighbor. No sermons—just blues, scripture, and a hard road where mercy still matters.

Scripture: Luke 10:25–37

25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

26 “What is written in the Law?” he replied. “How do you read it?”

27 He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’[a]; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b]

28 “You have answered correctly,” Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.”

29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?”

30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two denarii[c] and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Verse 1
I walked that Jericho road, dust all in my shoes

A man laid bleeding in the sun, Lord, didn’t know what to do

Verse 2
Priest come walking, robe clean, eyes turned away
Yeah, the priest come walking, robe clean, eyes turned away
He heard that dying man cry, but he didn’t stop that day

Verse 3
Levite passed by, kept his distance wide
Yeah, the Levite passed by, kept his distance wide
Said a prayer under his breath, Lord, then he crossed the other side

Chorus
Who’s my neighbor, tell me true
Yeah, who’s my neighbor, what should I do
Ain’t who you call your people, Lord
It’s who shows mercy when it’s due

Verse 4
Here come a stranger, road-worn, travel-tired soul
Yeah, here come a stranger, road-worn, travel-tired soul
He bound them wounds with his own hands
Poured oil, poured wine, took control

Verse 5
Lifted that man on his own beast, walked the rest of the way
Yeah, he lifted that man on his own beast, walked the rest of the way
Paid the cost, said, “I’ll be back”
Lord, that’s mercy on display

Chorus
Who’s my neighbor, tell me plain
Yeah, who’s my neighbor, spell it out again
Ain’t blood or name or where you’re from
It’s love that steps into the pain

Verse 6
Jesus said, “Go and do the same,” voice steady, low
Yeah, Jesus said, “Go and do the same,” voice steady, slow
Mercy ain’t a question, son
It’s a road you gotta walk and know

Outro
That Jericho road still dusty, still running through time
Yeah, that Jericho road still dusty, still running through time
Every soul you pass is asking you
Will you cross the road, or draw the line
