Sower Blues

Scripture Matthew 13:1-23

That same day Jesus went out of the house and sat by the lake. Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat in it, while all the people stood on the shore. Then he told them many things in parables, saying: “A farmer went out to sow his seed.

Lyrics

Verse 1
I went walkin’ that lonesome road,
Watchin’ the Sower swing His hand,
Yeah I been walkin’ that dusty road,
Seein’ seed fall on the weary land.
Some fell down on the hard ground,
Birds came quick, stole it clean away.
Some fell down on the rocky ground,
Dried up in the heat of the day.
But the Sower kept right on walkin’,
Never slowed His steady stride.
Lord, He kept sowin’ mercy,
Even where hope had died.

Verse 2
Some seed fell among the briars,
Choked by the thorns of fear and need.
Yeah, some fell deep in them briars,
Worldly worries stranglin’ out the seed.
But some fell into good soil,
Found a place where roots could run.
Some fell into that soft soil,
Where the harvest would come.
And the Sower kept His rhythm,
Spreadin’ truth across the land.
Said, “He who’s got ears to hear,
You best understand.”

Verse 3
Now I been checkin’ my own heart,
Wonderin’ what kind o’ ground I am.
Yeah, I been searchin’ my own heart,
Ask myself what kind o’ ground I am.
Am I stony, thorny, hardened?
Or can the good Word make me grow?
Am I stony, thorny, hardened?
Or can His mercy take root below?
Lord, help me be that good soil,
Where Your truth can multiply.
Let me be that rich soil,
Where Your harvest never dies.
